Instinct raises $1 billion at a $10 billion valuation

AI assistant startup Instinct has closed a $1 billion Series C round that values the company at $10 billion, according to TechCrunch. Sequoia Capital, Benchmark Capital and Coatue are among the investors in the round, which arrives barely a month after a previous fundraise valued the startup at $2.5 billion — a fourfold increase in roughly thirty days.

The Information first reported that Instinct was raising money earlier this month, and the company confirmed the round in a press release on Monday. As TechCrunch points out, that is an unusually fast follow-on for a startup whose invite-only service launched in August 2026.

An agent that acts, not just chats

Instinct belongs to a new wave of consumer AI agents built to complete tasks rather than merely answer questions. The assistant can book travel, secure restaurant reservations, make purchases, pay bills, cancel subscriptions, order groceries and carry out research on a user's behalf. To get a job done, Instinct uses its own phone number and its own computer.

TechCrunch reports that the company recently added a "concierge" feature that places phone calls for users, which helps with things like scheduling appointments at businesses that offer no online booking. There is also a "trusted person network" that lets one person's agent coordinate plans with agents run by their friends.

Privacy questions and Meta's entry

Those capabilities require users to hand over a considerable amount of personal information, and TechCrunch says some users are already questioning how much they must disclose. Instinct's initial privacy policy drew particular criticism for overreach and has since been updated.

The startup also faces fresh competition from Meta's AI assistant, Muse, which offers many similar features while integrating deeply with Meta's social products. That allows Muse to summarize Instagram DMs and Facebook Groups and keep an eye on Marketplace listings, on top of much of what Instinct does. According to TechCrunch, Muse has climbed to the top of the U.S. app store charts with millions of downloads, while Instinct still communicates with users over SMS, has no mobile app and has not disclosed user numbers or growth metrics.

The founder's take

Instinct declined interview requests for founder Noah Shinn alongside the funding news, but shared a statement attributed to him: "We're building Instinct to be the best personal agent that can handle the deeply personal nuances of everyday life. This funding helps us bring Instinct to more people and continue building the future of personal AI. It's an exciting, creative time, and we're just getting started."

Why it matters

A $10 billion valuation for a service that is only weeks old and publishes no usage figures says less about Instinct's current economics than about investor conviction that consumer AI agents will be a defining product category. The round shows how quickly the market is re-rating these companies — from $2.5 billion to $10 billion in a month — and how much capital is chasing the space.

The same dynamics cut both ways, though. The hype that attracted Sequoia and Benchmark has also pulled Meta into the market with distribution advantages Instinct cannot match, and the usefulness of these agents depends on users surrendering sensitive personal data, as Instinct's own privacy policy stumble illustrates. The funding buys Instinct runway and attention; whether it can convert that into durable reach and trust before larger platforms consolidate the category is the open question.
