Bluesky's Attie now lets anyone build websites, games and polls on the AT Protocol
Bluesky has expanded its Attie app with AI tools for building websites, games, polls and other interactive experiences on the AT Protocol, betting that built-in distribution to its 47 million users sets it apart.

Bluesky is turning Attie, its experimental app for building custom social feeds, into a general-purpose creation platform. According to TechCrunch, the company announced at TechCrunch Disrupt 2026 that Attie can now be used to make websites, quizzes, games, polls and other interactive experiences — the kind of projects that previously required a software developer.
Social vibe coding for communities
Bluesky CEO Toni Schneider framed the new capability as an extension of vibe coding, the practice of describing software in plain language and letting an AI model generate it. In his view, today's tools serve one person at a time.
"Vibe coding today is kind of a single-user, solo experience," Schneider told TechCrunch. "And what I want to be able to do is build together or build for a group of people, and that's what this product does." He summarized the feature as "social vibe coding or vibe coding for your community."
Users can bring their own AI model to Attie or choose from open-weight options. Anything a person builds is connected to their atproto identity, and Attie will suggest ideas based on their public Bluesky profile.
Everything runs on the AT Protocol
The sites, games and other experiences created in Attie live on the same AT Protocol that powers Bluesky and the broader decentralized social web known as the Atmosphere. As TechCrunch notes, that means user-built projects are not standalone web pages but artifacts of the same open network that carries Bluesky's social data.
Distribution is the pitch
For Bluesky COO Rose Wang, the differentiator is not the building tools themselves but who ends up seeing the result. "Everybody is building… But the big question is: who's using the thing you're building, because we haven't solved that problem with distribution," she said. In her telling, Attie "comes with the Bluesky distribution, so it doesn't stand alone."
That distribution argument rests on a network of 47 million registered users, though TechCrunch reports that engagement has declined as some people who tried Bluesky later returned to X.
A testbed for Bluesky's next phase
Attie also functions as a playground where Bluesky can trial AI-powered ideas before folding them into its flagship app. According to TechCrunch, the new creation tools tie into a wider effort to revive activity on the network by focusing on developers and communities in the months ahead.
A key piece of that effort is protocol-level support for private data, which Schneider said is the single biggest request from developers. That capability is currently in alpha testing, with a full rollout planned by the end of the year.
Schneider, a former CEO of Automattic and a partner at True Ventures, leads the company after initially doing so on an interim basis, following Jay Graber's move from CEO to chief innovation officer in March.
The projects Attie is meant to enable are deliberately small in scope. "There should be lots and lots of these fun, small social experiences for your friends," Schneider said. "We don't all have to go communicate with the entire world all the time."
Why it matters
The expansion marks Bluesky's clearest attempt yet to position itself as a platform company rather than a single social app. AI-assisted building tools have proliferated, but most vibe-coded creations still face the same cold-start problem: nobody discovers them. Bluesky's bet is that pairing an AI builder with an existing social graph and an open protocol gives ordinary creators an audience by default.
It is also a strategic answer to the network's engagement challenges. Rather than competing for global attention, Attie points toward a long tail of private, community-scale experiences built on the AT Protocol — an ecosystem play that could make the Atmosphere, not just the Bluesky app, the product.
