Cloudflare launches early-access AEO dashboard to track AI citations and referral traffic
Cloudflare's early-access AEO Visibility Dashboard uses edge-network signals such as crawler activity and referrals to show whether AI assistants are citing or recommending a site.

What Cloudflare introduced
Cloudflare has opened early access to an AEO Visibility Dashboard, a product built to tell website operators whether AI assistants are recommending their brand and sending visitors to their properties. According to dev.io's coverage of Cloudflare's August 6, 2026 press release, the dashboard draws on signals collected across Cloudflare's edge network, including AI crawler activity and referral traffic.
The product sits inside Cloudflare's Answer Engine Optimization suite, next to tools for agent readiness and broader AEO measurement. Interested customers can request access through the Cloudflare dashboard, though dev.to cautions that early access is not the same as universal availability, and data coverage may not be identical for every AI assistant.
Why network signals are different
Most current approaches to measuring AI visibility depend on manually running prompts through models or relying on third-party panels. As dev.to points out, those methods can show whether a model names a brand for one query at one moment, but they cannot reveal whether an AI crawler has accessed the site, whether an AI platform generated referral visits, or how either signal shifts over time.
The dashboard is positioned around directly observed signals, and the differences between them matter:
- Crawl activity indicates that an AI operator accessed content, but does not prove the content was used in a response.
- Referrals record visits attributed to an AI platform, while saying nothing about citations that went unclicked.
- Citations and mentions reflect presence in AI answers, but are not the same as rankings, traffic or conversions.
- Recommendations speak to category and product discovery, showing whether an assistant presents a brand as a genuine option rather than merely listing a page.
Cloudflare's AEO documentation frames its measurement model around concepts such as citation rate, mention rate, prominence and share of voice — an acknowledgment that a brand can appear inside an AI-generated answer even when the user never clicks through to the cited site.
How it fits with Cloudflare's other AI tools
The dashboard forms part of a wider Cloudflare effort to make AI bot activity visible to site owners. The company's AI Crawl Control documentation describes analyzing AI traffic by operator and crawler, and its AI Search Index offers an opt-in path for content to participate in AI search experiences.
dev.to argues these tools answer three distinct questions: deciding which AI operators may access a site is a content policy decision, measuring citations and referrals is a visibility and attribution exercise, and joining an indexing program is a distribution decision. Teams should not assume that taking one action guarantees the outcome tracked by another tool.
Unverified pricing and traffic figures
Two numbers circulating in coverage deserve caution. Search Engine Land, reporting on a Cloudflare presentation at Cloudflare Connect 2026, described an "AEO Performance dashboard" priced at roughly $20 per month. Cloudflare's own press release does not state any price, so dev.to treats that figure as media-reported context rather than confirmed official pricing for the early-access product.
The same report cited a 116% year-over-year increase in OpenAI crawling. That figure does not appear in the primary Cloudflare materials reviewed for the announcement, and should not be treated as a verified market benchmark without further supporting data.
Why it matters
AI discovery has created an attribution gap for publishers and marketers. A site can be crawled by an AI operator, cited in an answer without a single click, or receive referral visits, and none of those signals maps cleanly onto traffic or revenue. Traditional analytics captures some referrals but cannot explain how AI systems discovered, cited or surfaced a business in the first place.
Cloudflare's dashboard is an early attempt to ground AI search reporting in observable network data rather than prompt sampling. For SEO and GEO teams, the practical value is adding an AI-discovery layer to existing reporting: establishing a baseline for crawler activity and AI-attributed referrals, tracking citations and mentions over time, and keeping those signals separate from conventional search and conversion data before drawing connections between them. More data improves decisions, but as dev.to notes, it does not remove the need for careful attribution.
