Conductor joins Meta; cloud service shuts down November 20, local app supported into early 2027

The team behind Conductor, a Mac application for orchestrating AI coding agents, is joining Meta. In a changelog entry dated November 4, 2026, which surfaced on Hacker News's front page, the team announced that the product will be retired over the coming weeks and months, with the hosted cloud service first in line.

A short deadline for cloud users

According to the changelog, Conductor Cloud becomes read-only on November 13 and shuts down entirely on November 20. That leaves cloud users roughly two weeks from the announcement to move their workspaces and data out before the service disappears. The post does not describe what the team will work on at Meta or the terms of the move.

The local app lives on, for now

The local Mac version of Conductor will continue to receive new models and critical bug fixes until early 2027, the changelog states. What happens after that point is not addressed; there is no mention of open-sourcing the code, handing it to the community, or any support commitment beyond that horizon.

The 0.93.0 release that carries the announcement is more than a farewell note. It adds user-configurable completion sounds, shows pull requests, last-known changes and the file tree for archived cloud workspaces in the right panel, and adds GPT-6.1 Terra to the Codex model picker. The fixes touch the Claude account usage display when Claude Code reports newer limit data, chat-history timestamps for closed conversations, labels on messages agents send to one another, the prefill behaviour of the rename-workspace dialog, long PR titles hiding PR numbers, and full-window rendering of expanded Mermaid diagrams.

How to move your data out

The changelog describes two migration paths. To move a cloud workspace and its chats onto a Mac, users can right-click the workspace and choose "Transfer to local". To download everything, the route is Settings, then Account, then Export data. Anyone who needs help is pointed to email support.

What the changelog reveals about the product

The incidental details in the release notes sketch Conductor's scope: it integrates with OpenAI's Codex model lineup and Anthropic's Claude Code, tracks per-account usage limits, manages git worktrees and pull requests across workspaces, and allows agents to exchange messages with each other. In other words, it is positioned as a control surface for running several AI coding agents side by side rather than a wrapper around a single model.

Why it matters

Conductor's wind-down is another case of an independent AI developer tool being absorbed by a large platform company, and it shows how quickly the hosted half of such a tool can be cut off. Cloud users face a hard shutdown on November 20 with about two weeks' notice, and even the local edition now has a stated end of active development in early 2027. Anyone with work stored in a cloud workspace should transfer or export it before the read-only date on November 13, when the options for moving data start to narrow.

The episode is also a reminder of a broader operational risk: local-first software usually survives a company's pivot or collapse, but here the announcement puts a clock on the local app too. For teams that built workflows around Conductor, the practical questions are immediate, how to get data out before the deadline, and longer-term, what to migrate to once new models and fixes stop arriving.
