Grokipedia resumes edits and ships v0.3
Grokipedia, the AI-generated encyclopedia operated by SpaceXAI as a competitor to Wikipedia, has quietly come back to life. According to The Verge, the site has started accepting edits again after a long period of apparent inactivity, and it has shipped a v0.3 update that overhauls much of its visual design.
The refresh includes a new logo plus reworked homepage and live edits pages. Benji Taylor, SpaceXAI's head of design, referred to it as a "newly refreshed Grokipedia" in comments reported by The Verge.
What the redesign changes
The original Grokipedia homepage offered little more than a logo and a search box. The new version is considerably busier: it now carries a list of featured articles, a most-read section, and a tracker showing the latest edits landing on the site.
The featured articles are presented as digital book renderings that visitors can rotate, and the most-read list extends the same library metaphor with a horizontally scrolling shelf of book spines. On the live edits page, the revised layout makes it easier to see more of the recent changes at once.
Article pages received only minor adjustments. The Verge points to a cleaner format for the fact tables that sit at the top of entries, along with tighter spacing between lines. Beyond that, the articles themselves reportedly look much as they did before.
A project that stalled, then restarted
Grokipedia's short history has been uneven. The site launched as v0.1 in late October 2025 with entries seeded from AI-generated copies of Wikipedia pages, and a v0.2 release followed roughly a month later. After that, activity appeared to dry up. Lawfare reported in August that it could not find a single entry that had changed in more than three months, reinforcing the impression that the project had gone dormant.
Against that backdrop, the return of edits and the v0.3 redesign suggest renewed interest inside SpaceXAI, though the company did not reply to The Verge's request for comment, so there is no official explanation for either the earlier pause or the current revival.
Why it matters
Grokipedia is one of the most visible attempts to position AI-generated text as a substitute for a human-edited reference work, and its fortunes are a useful signal of whether such projects can be sustained over time. A months-long freeze with no updated entries would undercut the core promise of a living encyclopedia; the fact that edits are flowing again and that design effort is being invested indicates the project has not simply been abandoned.
That said, a visual refresh addresses presentation rather than substance. The open questions about Grokipedia — how its articles are produced, reviewed and corrected — remain unanswered, and The Verge's observation that article content looks largely unchanged suggests the site's underlying approach has not fundamentally shifted. For now, v0.3 reads more as a signal of intent than a resolution of the doubts that built up during the silent months.
