Legora raises $550M Series E at $8.8B valuation as legal AI race with Harvey heats up

Legal AI startup Legora has closed a $550 million Series E at an $8.8 billion valuation, with ARR doubling past $200 million as it chases rival Harvey in North America.

Legora raises $550M Series E at $8.8B valuation as legal AI race with Harvey heats up

Legora, a startup building AI tools for legal professionals, has raised $550 million in a Series E round valuing the company at $8.8 billion, according to TechCrunch. The financing, announced on Wednesday, was led by Atreides Management, with Baron Capital, Bessemer Venture Partners, General Catalyst and Menlo among the other participants.

Doubling revenue in six months

The round caps a busy year for the company. In April, Legora announced a $50 million extension of its $550 million Series D, which valued it at $5.6 billion. At the time, the company said annual recurring revenue had reached $100 million. As of this week's announcement, that figure stands above $200 million — roughly doubling in about six months.

That trajectory helps explain the step up in price: Legora added $3.2 billion to its valuation between one financing event and the next.

Locked in a race with Harvey

Legora's raise lands just a month after Harvey, its biggest competitor, announced its own $550 million round at a $15.5 billion valuation. Harvey disclosed in March that its ARR had passed $200 million, which means both companies have reported revenue above that mark this year — even though investors are pricing Harvey at nearly twice Legora's value.

According to TechCrunch, the two rivals sit at the front of a broader shift in legal technology: firms are graduating from chat-style AI helpers toward systems that take on actual workflow tasks for legal professionals. The willingness of top-tier investors to keep writing nine-figure cheques to both companies suggests they expect that transition to produce substantial businesses rather than incremental tooling.

The expansion target is North America

Legora told TechCrunch it plans to deploy the fresh capital to keep building out its presence across North America. The choice of the word "further" points to an existing foothold in the region, with the new money intended to deepen it rather than establish one from scratch. Beyond that geographic goal, the company did not lay out other specific plans for the funds in the announcement.

Why it matters

Two things make this round worth watching. First, the pace: Legora roughly doubled its ARR to more than $200 million and lifted its valuation from $5.6 billion to $8.8 billion in around six months — evidence that revenue growth, not just narrative, is fuelling the legal AI funding cycle. Second, the pricing gap: Legora and Harvey have both reported ARR above $200 million this year, yet Harvey commands $15.5 billion against Legora's $8.8 billion. Investors are plainly not treating the two as equals, and whether Legora can narrow that gap — particularly in North America, where it is directing its new capital — is likely to shape the next phase of competition in legal AI.
