Meta targets corporate AI buyers

According to TechCrunch, Meta announced on Monday that it is launching Meta Enterprise Platform, a new initiative aimed at selling the company's AI products to businesses and corporate customers. To run it, Meta has hired Chirantan "CJ" Desai, who leaves his post as chief executive of database maker MongoDB to lead the effort.

The move marks a deliberate expansion beyond Meta's consumer apps and advertising tools, and it arrives shortly after the company released Muse, a personal AI assistant that can handle practical tasks such as sending emails and booking travel. TechCrunch reports that Meta plans to bring its full technology stack to businesses and developers, including Muse, Meta Business Agent, the Muse API and Muse Code.

An enterprise veteran takes the wheel

In a statement, Desai said he expects AI to fundamentally reshape how organizations of all sizes innovate, grow, serve customers and run day-to-day operations over the coming years. In his view, Meta is unusually placed for that shift because it pairs advanced models and leading agents with a long record of helping millions of advertisers and hundreds of millions of businesses scale. The new platform, he added, will concentrate on turning Meta's AI stack into products and services that companies can deploy for their own needs.

The hiring is itself a signal. Rather than promoting from within its consumer organization, Meta recruited a sitting CEO from the enterprise software world, someone whose background is selling technology to developers and large organizations rather than to consumers.

MongoDB absorbs the shock

The departure stung MongoDB. TechCrunch reports that the company's shares fell by more than 17% on the news of Desai's sudden exit. MongoDB has appointed Dev Ittycheria, who previously held the top job, as interim chief executive while the board searches for a permanent replacement.

Why it matters

Meta's revenue comes overwhelmingly from advertising, and the company has committed enormous sums to AI. TechCrunch notes that a successful enterprise business could help Meta see a return on that spending, giving it a significant second revenue channel instead of leaving it exposed to the ups and downs of the ad market.

The launch also intensifies competition in business AI. Vendors such as Microsoft, Google and OpenAI already sell assistants, APIs and agents to companies, and Meta's entry adds a well-funded rival whose consumer assistant, Muse, can serve as a live demonstration of what its stack can do.

Finally, the episode underlines how sharply AI demand is redrawing executive talent markets. A sitting CEO of a public database company departed mid-tenure for a new business unit at a social media giant, and investors responded by cutting his former employer's valuation by double digits. For MongoDB, the immediate task is continuity under an interim leader while the board hunts for a successor, all while enterprise data infrastructure remains central to the AI build-out it was founded to serve.
