Meta quietly launches Style Sketch, an AI fashion app that builds a virtual closet from Instagram
Meta has quietly released Style Sketch, an AI fashion app now live in Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand that builds a virtual wardrobe from Instagram photos and suggests outfits matched to the user's body and style.

What Style Sketch does
Meta has quietly released an AI-powered fashion app called Style Sketch, according to TechCrunch. The app is designed to help people put together outfit ideas using clothes they already own, and it starts by constructing a virtual closet: it connects to Instagram and draws on photos the user has posted to identify garments in their wardrobe. Items can also be added manually by taking a photo, recording a short video, or uploading images from the phone's camera roll.
Once the closet is populated, the app suggests outfit combinations built from that wardrobe and matched to the user's personal style. Suggestions are not purely random — the app description says users can select a specific item and receive fresh outfit ideas constructed around it.
Style Sketch also includes a virtual try-on feature. Outfits can be previewed on what the app's description calls a realistic model matched to the user's body shape and skin tone. There is a travel-planning component as well: by entering a destination, trip length and planned activities, users get a day-by-day outfit plan that takes the weather forecast and itinerary into account.
A quiet, limited launch
TechCrunch reports that the app was first spotted by social media consultant Matt Navarra, and that it is currently available on both iOS and Android in Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand. Meta did not respond to TechCrunch's request for comment, and it is unknown whether the company plans a wider release.
A crowded market with one big difference
The core idea is not new. As TechCrunch notes, several apps already use AI to digitize wardrobes and visualize new outfits, including the startup Alta, and Google Photos offers tools that turn photos of clothes into digital closets where users can create outfit ideas.
What sets Meta's version apart is less the concept and more the Instagram integration, the report suggests. Where standalone competitors need users to build a digital wardrobe from scratch, Style Sketch can lean on a platform where many people already have a long visual record of their personal style.
Part of Meta's broader app push
Style Sketch is one of several AI apps Meta has shipped in recent months. TechCrunch points to Waddle World, described as essentially a Tamagotchi-style virtual pet with AI; Pocket, a tool for vibe-coding games; and Vibes, which lets users quickly generate AI-powered videos.
The wave of releases reflects a deliberate strategy. The Wall Street Journal reported earlier this year that CEO Mark Zuckerberg told employees Meta plans to release far more apps than it historically has, as AI-driven efficiencies have made shipping new apps faster and easier. Style Sketch fits that pattern: a narrow, consumer-facing AI product tested quietly in a handful of markets.
Why it matters
The launch shows how Meta intends to compete in consumer AI. Rather than winning on novelty, its advantage is pairing new AI apps with the behavioral and visual data its existing platforms already hold. If mining posted Instagram photos into a usable wardrobe works here, the same playbook could extend to other domains.
It also illustrates the company's shift toward rapid, experimental app releases in limited markets instead of a small number of flagship launches — a strategy that could pressure smaller startups like Alta and even established players such as Google, which lack Meta's distribution and data.
Finally, an app that automatically analyzes years of posted photos raises familiar questions about how visual data shared on social platforms gets reused. Meta has not addressed those questions publicly; it did not respond to TechCrunch's request for comment, and there is no word yet on whether Style Sketch will reach users beyond Southeast Asia.
