Nvidia's Arm laptop push lands in October
Nvidia's first laptops built on its Arm-based RTX Spark platform will reach the market in October, according to The Verge. The machines will run on the company's N1X chip, which arrives in two distinct configurations rather than a single part. A second, smaller chip known as the N1 — the subject of many rumors ahead of the summer announcement — will not appear in devices this year.
Two versions of the N1X
The top-tier N1X configuration pairs a 20-core Grace CPU with a Blackwell RTX GPU containing 6,144 cores, alongside between 24GB and 128GB of unified memory. According to The Verge, this version will ship not only in high-end laptops but also in miniature PCs, including Microsoft's Surface RTX Spark Dev Box.
The second configuration is the one The Verge expects most RTX Spark laptops to actually use. It scales the design down to an 18-core Grace CPU, a 5,120-core Blackwell RTX GPU and a narrower 24GB to 32GB range of unified memory. Devices based on this variant are expected from Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Microsoft and MSI when the platform launches in October.
Performance and pricing remain open questions
Nvidia has so far offered only a broad performance target for the platform. According to The Verge, the company is promising frame rates in the region of 100fps at 1440p resolution with ray tracing and DLSS enabled, but has yet to give a fuller picture of what the N1X can do for laptop gaming.
Pricing and exact availability are also still unconfirmed, with the PC makers yet to announce their lineups even though launch is roughly a month away. The Verge's Tom Warren expects N1X laptops to land at the very premium end of the market, pointing to the ongoing memory supply crunch. That pressure is particularly relevant here, since the platform's unified memory design means RAM is a core component of every configuration.
Why it matters
The October launch marks Nvidia's most concrete step into Arm-based laptops, bringing its own CPU-and-GPU pairing to a category where it has previously supplied only graphics hardware. The unified memory architecture, stretching up to 128GB on the flagship configuration, positions these machines as much as AI and developer workstations as gaming laptops — which helps explain why a device like Microsoft's Dev Box is among the first products out of the door.
The split into two configurations also signals how Nvidia intends to segment the market: a full-fat part for premium laptops and mini PCs, and a trimmed-down version for mainstream machines. But with the more modest N1 chip delayed beyond this year, there is no truly budget tier yet, and the anticipated premium pricing — aggravated by memory costs — could limit early adoption.
For buyers, the key details to watch over the coming weeks are the actual benchmark numbers, particularly for gaming beyond Nvidia's single 1440p target, and the launch prices from Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Microsoft and MSI. Those two data points will determine whether RTX Spark starts as a niche platform for enthusiasts and developers or something with broader reach.
