OpenAI ships interactive Intelligent UI visuals for ChatGPT alongside new GPT-6 model
OpenAI is rolling out Intelligent UI, a ChatGPT interface that puts interactive charts, calculators and diagrams into conversations, debuting alongside a new GPT-6 model.

A visual layer on top of chat
OpenAI is reworking how ChatGPT presents its answers. According to TechCrunch, the company is launching a feature it calls Intelligent UI, an interface that embeds interactive visual elements directly into conversations. The update is rolling out together with a new GPT-6 model.
The change goes beyond the static images ChatGPT can already generate. TechCrunch reports that many of the new visuals are interactive: tappable buttons, calculators built for a specific task, charts that respond to input, and graphs that users can edit themselves. OpenAI frames the primary goal as making it easier to learn complex topics. TechCrunch adds that the redesign may also make the product feel more approachable to a wider audience, though it notes OpenAI did not claim this directly.
Ahead of the launch, OpenAI staff held a briefing call with journalists in which the chatbot generated diagrams and other visuals on demand to explain abstract subject matter.
What the demonstrations showed
Aarush Selvan, a product manager at OpenAI, said ChatGPT has largely been a text-based interface, and that the company wants to help users accomplish practical goals — everyday tasks like planning a recipe or a trip, or learning something new — where a purely textual answer is not always the most useful one.
In one demonstration, a prompt asking ChatGPT to explore how an airplane wing generates lift quickly produced a set of diagrams illustrating the mechanics of flight. Other examples shown by the company included visuals for recipes, a diagram explaining how a bicycle works, a map for a multi-day hiking excursion, and a personal savings calculator.
The examples point to the pattern OpenAI is aiming for: when a question has a structural, numerical or spatial dimension, the model can respond with an artifact the user can poke at rather than paragraphs of explanation.
Rollout and user control
The feature is adjustable. According to TechCrunch, users who find the visuals excessive will be able to dial them back, in line with the existing settings that govern ChatGPT's behavior and tone.
Availability follows OpenAI's usual tiering. Intelligent UI launches globally with GPT-6 for Pro, Plus, Business and Enterprise subscribers, while users on the Free and lower-cost Go tiers get access the following day.
Why it matters
Chat interfaces have been text-first since their inception, and Intelligent UI is a notable step away from that default. Instead of the model deciding only what to say, it now also decides how to present information — sometimes as a mini-application the user can manipulate. If the demos are representative, a savings question becomes a working calculator and an aerodynamics question becomes an annotated set of diagrams.
For OpenAI, the educational framing matters. Interactive visuals are a genuinely different way to absorb complicated material, and pairing them with a new GPT-6 model signals that the company is competing on the overall product experience, not just raw model benchmarks. A friendlier, more visual interface could also widen ChatGPT's appeal beyond the users who are comfortable reading long-form text output.
There are open questions the rollout will answer over time: how consistently the model chooses the right visual format, how well interactive elements work across the many subjects ChatGPT handles, and whether users end up embracing the visuals or turning them down via the new controls. What is clear is the direction — the chatbot is steadily becoming less of a text box and more of a generative workspace.
