Plaud launches $249.99 AI earbuds that record, transcribe and summarize conversations

Plaud, best known for its pin-style AI voice recorders, is moving into earbuds. According to The Verge, the company has unveiled the Plaud One Explorer Edition, a wearable that records, transcribes and summarizes conversations — the same core job as its earlier devices, but in a form factor people already wear every day.

The hardware

The Verge reports that the Plaud One can be worn like ordinary earbuds or operated through its charging case, letting it capture audio without sitting in your ears. Each earbud holds 16MB of local storage (32MB for the pair) and carries three microphones that can pick up speech from up to two meters away. Plaud puts both recording time and battery life at a maximum of six hours, and the buds include noise cancellation plus force-activated sensor controls on their stems.

The case is a recorder in its own right: it has four microphones with a five-meter recording range, a built-in speaker, 512MB of storage, and a USB-C rechargeable battery that extends total use to roughly 36 hours. It also houses a 4G connection, so recordings can be uploaded and processed without a phone or Wi-Fi network nearby.

The AI features

Transcription and summarization run on Plaud Intelligence, which the company says is designed to "understand and execute on human intent." A dedicated AI button on the charging case summons Plaud Agent, an assistant that connects natively with Gmail, Google Calendar, Notion and Slack, so acting on a recorded meeting does not require jumping between platforms.

Price and availability

The Plaud One is priced at $249.99. According to The Verge, preorders opened on August 27 in certain markets, with shipments expected to begin in late September.

Why it matters

Plaud built its name on a dedicated recording pin; the Plaud One shows the company betting that earbuds are the more natural home for the same job. The standalone 4G case matters too, because it decouples the device from a phone and pushes it toward self-sufficient AI hardware rather than a phone accessory. The pitch itself is also telling: record everything, summarize it, and pipe the results straight into the tools where work already happens. That convenience carries the same friction Plaud's earlier recorders face — a wearable built to capture conversations, now from as far as five meters away via its case, will keep consent and privacy questions front and center as such devices spread.
