Vercel revises Hobby and Pro Terms of Service with new credit, cancellation and managed account rules
Vercel's revised Hobby and Pro Terms of Service, effective October 19, 2026, define when credits expire, how managed accounts work, and new free-cancellation rights for UK and EU consumers.
Vercel has updated the Terms of Service governing its Hobby and Pro plans, with the changes taking effect on October 19, 2026. According to Vercel, the revision clarifies existing practices, expands the terms around managed accounts and credits, and aligns the agreement with applicable legal requirements — including cancellation and service-change rights for eligible consumers in the UK and EU.
Credits and billing
A new section in the agreement sets out how credits work. Plan-included credits expire when the subscription term ends, while purchased credits expire one year after purchase unless stated otherwise. Credits can only be used to pay Vercel fees, hold no cash value and cannot be transferred. They are generally nonrefundable, with one carve-out: if Vercel ends an account without cause, unused purchased credits are refunded.
The updated Terms also clarify billing mechanics. Credit purchases are billed in advance, subscriptions renew automatically unless the customer turns renewal off, and pass-through rates for third-party services may change when the underlying provider adjusts its own rates.
Managed accounts
The revised language spells out what users inside a Managed Team are able to see, and when the account owner may manage projects created within that team. Where a migration to a Managed Account is required, Vercel says it will notify the customer and allow a reasonable period to move content to a different email address.
Renewal and cancellation
Customers can switch off auto-renewal and cancel or downgrade through account settings or by contacting Support. Cancellations and downgrades generally take effect at the start of the next renewal period, so a request made mid-cycle does not bite until that boundary. The Terms also describe statutory withdrawal and refund rights available to eligible consumers.
Service changes for UK and EU consumers
One of the more consequential additions concerns unilateral service changes. Eligible consumers in the UK and EU can cancel an affected subscription free of charge when a change goes beyond a minor negative impact on their access to or use of the platform. They have 30 days, counted from the notice or the change itself — whichever is later — and may receive a prorated refund of prepaid amounts for the remaining period.
Other updates
Vercel has also relocated service-specific provisions to a dedicated Service Terms page, separating product-level rules from the platform-wide agreement. The Terms additionally clarify sanctions obligations, stating that use of the services must not be connected to, or for the benefit of, a sanctioned person.
Why it matters
Terms-of-service updates rarely grab attention, but this one touches details that Hobby and Pro customers deal with directly. The new expiry rules mean unused credit balances can disappear on a defined schedule — plan credits at the end of each term, purchased credits after a year — which matters for anyone budgeting usage around them. The confirmation that credits are nontransferable and generally nonrefundable also narrows options if a team's plans change.
For UK and EU users, the service-change clause provides a concrete lever: a material degradation of access triggers a free cancellation right with a prorated refund, on a 30-day clock. Anyone running projects on Vercel should also note the renewal mechanics — auto-renewal is on by default, and cancellations land at the next renewal boundary — and check the new Service Terms page, since product-specific rules now live in a separate document. The updated agreement applies to Hobby and Pro customers as of October 19, 2026.
