Amazon adds over 100 shopping capabilities to Alexa ahead of the holidays
Amazon has given Alexa more than 100 shopping-related capabilities ahead of the holiday season, covering lists, subscription changes, delivery instructions and payment issue resolution.

Amazon has added more than 100 shopping-related capabilities to Alexa ahead of the holiday shopping season, according to TechCrunch. The batch of features spans list management, subscription control, delivery instruction updates, payment troubleshooting and questions about Prime memberships — a broad push to make the voice assistant a practical tool for handling orders rather than just browsing them.
What the new features cover
The update moves a range of everyday account chores into conversational workflows. Alexa can create shopping lists, let users review what is on them, and add or edit items. It can also take over recurring orders: TechCrunch cites the example of asking Alexa to change an item's delivery schedule from monthly to once every three months.
Delivery details are included as well. Customers can update the address on an order or append drop-off notes, such as instructions on where a package should be left, without working through the app's settings screens.
On the billing side, Alexa can now field questions about Prime and Audible memberships and help users sort out payment problems — issues that previously tended to end on a support page or in a customer service exchange.
Part of a year of AI shopping features
The additions are not an isolated release. According to TechCrunch, Amazon has rolled out a series of AI-focused commerce features this year, including a shopping assistant and a mechanism for alerting users to new products and offers.
Amazon also shared adoption numbers alongside the update. The company said the number of people using Alexa's agentic features — capabilities in which the assistant carries out multi-step tasks on the user's behalf rather than simply answering questions — has grown eightfold since the start of the year. Over the past 12 months, more than 400 million consumers have used Alexa for shopping, TechCrunch reports.
Why it matters
The release is a concrete example of agentic AI reaching mainstream retail. Instead of setting timers or answering trivia, Alexa is being asked to modify subscriptions, edit delivery addresses and resolve billing issues — multi-step tasks that touch real money and real accounts. The reported eightfold growth in agentic feature usage suggests shoppers are becoming comfortable delegating exactly those chores to an assistant.
The timing is deliberate. The holiday stretch is the busiest period on the retail calendar, and support channels tend to clog precisely when customers most need to change an order or fix a failed payment. Offloading routine order and billing fixes to Alexa could reduce friction for shoppers while easing support load for Amazon at the same time.
There is a strategic dimension too. Every subscription change or delivery edit completed through Alexa strengthens the assistant's position as a default interface to Amazon's store, and raises the bar for rival assistants hoping to occupy the same role. As platform vendors race to build assistants that can act on users' behalf rather than just talk, commerce — where intent, payment and fulfillment already sit inside a single company's systems — is shaping up as the proving ground.
