Gemini Notebook adds output language setting covering more than 80 languages

What the setting does

Google's Gemini Notebook now offers a configurable Output Language setting that controls the language of the text the tool generates. According to dev.to, which reported the change based on Google's help documentation, the setting applies to chat responses, study guides, documentation, Audio Overviews and Video Overviews, subject to the language support available for each feature.

Google lists more than 80 supported languages, among them English, Spanish, French, German, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian.

How it works

On desktop, the control lives under Settings, where users select Output Language and pick a preference. The default inherits from the language configured in the user's Google Account, but it can be changed inside Gemini Notebook when a task calls for a different output.

That split between the account-level default and the notebook-level override is the useful part. A user can keep their account in their primary working language while generating content in another, which fits teams that collect source material in one or more languages but need the resulting summaries, guides or documentation in a different one.

Coverage varies between features

The main limitation is that language availability is not uniform. While Google publishes a broad list of supported languages, it also states that individual features may support different sets of them. A language that works for chat responses should not be assumed to work identically for Audio Overviews or Video Overviews.

The rollout is happening in stages: initial web access is available to Google AI Ultra, Pro and Plus subscribers, with mobile expansion and broader regional availability planned to follow. The announcement does not include pricing details, so organizations evaluating access should check their applicable Google subscription terms rather than infer a price from the rollout description.

Why it matters

The setting moves language selection from a post-generation translation step into the notebook itself, giving multilingual teams direct control over output language at the point where content is created.
