OpenAI's Intelligent UI turns ChatGPT responses into interactive charts and tools
OpenAI is rolling out Intelligent UI alongside its GPT-6 models, letting ChatGPT answer with interactive diagrams, charts, forms and working tools instead of plain text.

OpenAI has begun rolling out a feature called Intelligent UI that changes the shape of ChatGPT's answers, letting the assistant respond with interactive graphics — diagrams, charts, forms and buttons you can tap — alongside ordinary text. According to The Verge, the update reaches all ChatGPT users together with OpenAI's new GPT-6 models.
How responses change
In a blog post describing the change, OpenAI says it trained GPT-6 to judge when an interactive visual serves a question better than text does, and how to arrange those elements within a reply.
The examples OpenAI shared hint at the range. Ask about the design of a seven-speed bicycle and ChatGPT can produce a diagram where buttons spotlight individual components. Ask it to teach you Mahjong and it can render each tile as an image, sorted into categories you can browse through. The assistant can also build utilities on request — a retirement savings calculator, a retro game or a bill splitter — and embed the working tool directly inside its answer rather than sending you elsewhere to run it.
GPT-6 Sol and Luna arrive in ChatGPT
OpenAI unveiled its first GPT-6 models last month, and The Verge reports that the Sol and Luna variants are now making their way into ChatGPT. Beyond enabling Intelligent UI, the models are said to improve web search performance and let ChatGPT deliver faster partial answers while it continues collecting information. OpenAI also claims GPT-6 held up better against attempts to work around its safety training.
Who gets it, and when
The rollout is global and staggered by plan. ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise subscribers gain access first, according to The Verge, with Go and free users following on Thursday. The model assignment also depends on the tier: higher-paying subscribers receive GPT-6 Sol, which OpenAI positions as the mid-range option, while Go and free users get the more efficient GPT-6 Luna.
Why it matters
Since ChatGPT launched, the chat interface has been fundamentally a text box: you ask, it types. Intelligent UI moves the product toward responses that behave like lightweight applications, with charts you can manipulate, forms to fill in and tools that run in place. That collapses a step many users currently handle themselves — asking a model to write a calculator or a game, then copying the code somewhere else to execute it.
It also raises questions worth watching. Generated diagrams and tools are only as accurate as the model behind them, and interactive output can be harder to skim or verify than plain text. Because free users receive Luna while subscribers get Sol, the quality gap between ChatGPT's free and paid experiences is now baked into the model itself rather than just usage limits. And as rival assistants converge on similar reasoning and search capabilities, the interface itself is becoming a competitive differentiator for OpenAI.
