Meta acquires AI coding startup Conductor; cloud service shuts down November 20
Meta has acquired Conductor, a startup that runs parallel AI coding agents from Anthropic and OpenAI across cloud, local and phone workspaces. Conductor's cloud service will shut down on November 20.

Meta acquires Conductor
Meta has acquired Conductor, a startup whose product helps engineers build software by running multiple AI agents simultaneously in separate workspaces. According to TechCrunch, which confirmed the deal with Meta, the news was first reported by Axios; Meta declined to comment further or share details such as the purchase price.
Conductor founder and CEO Charlie Holtz announced the acquisition on the company's blog, writing that the team has "big, crazy plans" for what he described as the next interface and that customers would see something new by early next year. On X, he said he was looking forward to working with Alexandr Wang, Meta's chief AI officer, and Nat Friedman, who heads product at Meta's Superintelligence Labs, adding that he believes the lab has "the highest talent density of all the labs."
Parallel agents built on third-party models
Conductor was founded in 2024 and launched its core product only last summer, TechCrunch reports. The platform deploys teams of agents that each handle a distinct, isolated slice of a project, and it can run in the cloud, on a local machine, or from a phone. The agents themselves are not Conductor's own: the startup builds on models from major labs including Anthropic and OpenAI.
Cloud service shuts down on November 20
For existing users, the transition comes with a tight deadline. Holtz said Conductor's core features will keep working as they do today until early next year, but the cloud service will shut down on November 20. After that date, the company will begin deleting user cloud data, which means anyone relying on the hosted offering has to move their work or export what they need before then.
Part of Meta's broader AI push
The acquisition extends a busy stretch for Meta as it works to make up ground in AI services. TechCrunch notes the company launched its own coding agent, Muse Code, in August, and that its recently launched Muse agents have surpassed 10 million users. Meta has also made several AI acquisitions over the past year, including Moltbook, a viral agent platform.
Why it matters
The deal is further evidence that large AI platforms want to own the developer-facing tooling layer, not just the underlying models. Conductor's value is orchestration, coordinating many agents from other labs on parallel tasks, and buying it brings that capability, plus its founder, in-house just as Meta's own Muse coding tools reach scale.
For Conductor's users, the consequence is immediate and practical: the cloud service disappears on November 20 and hosted data is deleted afterward. More broadly, the purchase fits the ongoing consolidation of agentic coding tools, in which small startups building on top of frontier models from Anthropic and OpenAI increasingly end up absorbed by larger companies rather than competing beside them.
